ARM SPLINT SETTER

The Hand Claw

An orthographic doctor and inventor came to us with a handmade prototype made of thermoplastic splinting material. The tool’s purpose is to help doctors place a compressing sockinette over a patient’s wrist specifically for wrist and hand fractures. This device acts as a slide that the sockinet is pre-loaded onto, that makes for a much more comfortable and seamless transition onto the injured wrist and arm area. Our goal was to design a sleaker, manufacturable product based on the function of our cllient’s working prototype, and create it from materials that are able to be sanitized or autoclaved.

Our client’s working prototype.

Our designers and client testing different iterations of the improved design to pinpoint what works well in the design, and what needs to be changed. We initially prototyped the Hand Claw from lasercut and bent pieces of styrene along with some 3D printed SLA components.
